Apple is rethinking its traditionally cautious stance on AI-powered conversational technologies. The company has launched a new team, dubbed “Answers,” to develop an advanced system that aims to transform how users access information.
Currently in the testing phase, the AI-driven “answer engine” is designed to search the web and respond to user queries. Over time, this infrastructure is expected to enhance the search capabilities of other Apple products, including Siri, Spotlight, and Safari.
Leading this new initiative is Robby Walker, who previously oversaw Siri’s development but was reassigned following engineering challenges. Many engineers from the Siri team have joined the Answers project, while Apple continues to actively recruit fresh talent to strengthen its expertise in this area.
Last year, as part of the Apple Intelligence platform, the company integrated OpenAI’s ChatGPT into Siri to help fulfill certain information requests. However, that integration remained limited in its scope. With Answers, Apple is now aiming to deliver a more comprehensive and user-focused solution.
