A pioneer in AI-generated visuals, Midjourney has officially introduced its long-anticipated video generation tool, V1. This new model allows users to create four distinct 5-second videos from a single image, offering a new layer of creativity and dynamic storytelling.
Users can either upload their own visuals or use images generated by previous Midjourney models as input. Each video can also be extended by up to 4 additional seconds, enabling clips of up to 21 seconds in total.
Competing directly with tools like OpenAI’s Sora, Runway’s Gen-4, and Adobe Firefly, V1 stands out with its belief that AI-generated videos go far beyond background B-rolls or simple promotional clips. Midjourney positions V1 as a step forward in the evolution of AI-assisted visual storytelling.
One key point to note is that generating videos with V1 consumes 8 times more credits than creating still images. The most affordable way to try the tool is through the $10 Basic plan, while users subscribed to Pro or Mega plans can enjoy unlimited video generation in the slower Relax Mode.
For now, V1 is accessible exclusively via Discord and Midjourney’s web platform. The company has also announced that video pricing will be re-evaluated next month, hinting at possible adjustments based on user feedback and usage patterns.
