GPT-5 coming to iPhones with iOS 26

OpenAI’s groundbreaking new AI model GPT-5 will arrive on iPhones this fall with the release of iOS 26. Announced just yesterday, the model will be integrated into Apple Intelligence, though the integration will be entirely optional for users.

iPhone owners will gain several new capabilities, including accessing ChatGPT through Siri, using ChatGPT within writing tools, and activating ChatGPT via the iPhone’s camera.

With this integration, Siri will be able to leverage ChatGPT to answer specific requests, including questions about photos and documents. ChatGPT will be capable of generating text or images from a simple prompt, and users will be able to point their iPhone camera at objects or locations to receive instant information.

The rollout won’t be limited to iPhones — GPT-5 integration will also come to iPads with iPadOS 26 and to MacBooks with macOS Tahoe 26.

Alongside GPT-5, iOS 26 and Apple Intelligence will introduce new system-wide features for all Apple devices. Highlights include Live Translate, which can interpret conversations in FaceTime, Phone, and Messages in real time, and Visual Intelligence, a tool that allows users to search and interact with on-screen content instantly.
