Arm Holdings, one of the world’s leading chip design companies, has unveiled its next-generation processor family “Lumex,” designed specifically for mobile devices. The new line introduces on-device AI capabilities, enabling artificial intelligence tasks to run locally without relying on the internet or cloud services.
The Lumex family consists of four models, ranging from low-power chips for wearables to high-performance processors for flagship smartphones. The top-tier version is optimized to handle large-scale AI models directly on the device, eliminating the need for cloud computing.
Arm highlighted that the Lumex series was developed under its Compute Subsystems (CSS) division, which provides manufacturers and designers with pre-built, easily integrated architecture solutions.
These chips are designed for the 3-nanometer manufacturing process, aligning with TSMC’s advanced fabrication capabilities and mirroring the technology used in Apple’s latest iPhone processors.
Beyond design, Arm is also considering moving into direct chip manufacturing. To support this ambition, the company has started recruiting new talent with specialized expertise.
To showcase the Lumex lineup, Arm is planning a launch event in China, a move seen as a strategic signal to major smartphone makers outside the Apple–Samsung duopoly.
